Humans are the only creatures among the great 4 (apes, chimps, gorillas, Homo sapien sapien) who have 46 chromosomes. 23 from daddy and 23 from mommy. The other three species have 24 from daddy and 24 from mommy. This has always been one of Creationism’s ’strong’ arguments against evolution – “you see” they say, “we did not originate from the same place as chimps, apes and gorillas!”
But there has recently been a discovery on the 2nd human chromosome… Centrioles are found on the ends of each chromosome; this is standard. But there is something peculiar on this particular chromosome. It has a doubling of seemingly arbitrary centrioles right in the middle of the Chromosome! SUGGESTING, strongly if i might add, that two chromosomes fused together quite some time ago… Now the scientist i heard speaking on the matter was a Catholic and said, “I believe in God – but i do not believe in a God who places false evidence – attempting to lead us astray.”
This is a little too much to simply try to brush away – which i am certain most north american evangelicals will do… and others will just shrug their shoulders and say – “so what if God used evolution… still pretty frickin amazing.” Dr Konkel says that the Bible has nothing to say about the scientific origins of the universe. To think it does, is to falsely read the text. ignoring the culture and history of the very people who wrote it…

hm. I like it.
I have been reading a bit of Francis Collins, Thoman Kuhn and corresponding with my biology professor from Concordia University. The issues of intelligent design and irreducible complexities seem to keep re-surfacing in my life. what do i think about it and what do i think the Bible says about it? I have read all the basic intelligent design books and hopefully have a relatively decent understanding of evolution.
I do not believe that evolution, at least micro-evolution, can be disregarded. It is blatantly all around us and based on the scientific method has become a fact. Often people in Christian circles do not like to see Genesis as an allegory, even though light was created the two days before the sun, moon and stars (form and function). The Bible is filled with parables, truthful stories that are not factual. This world cannot separate the two, as opposed to the ancient world… who valued truth above fact. Evolution is amazing, it only magnifies God’s brilliance. This world is the greatest miracle and it is observable… science observes it. The fact that these multicellular organisms (designed by God) can adapt to surroundings, without cognition, is unbelievably amazing.
do not think that evolution takes away from God, there is no reason to believe this, God is still the prime origin, the instigator of all that is. the Bible helps present a truth, a principle that before anything was, God is. A principle that glorifies the majesty of the Lord.
most of the Old testament stories focus on glorifying the God of Israel… through all things, let Him be glorified.
