You are One of These !?

I believe the non-spiritual meaning IN life can be generally classified. Voila. There are three major driving forces: money, fun, and, well I’ll call it remembrance for now. I think it’s simple, choosing is renouncing. What makes someone fall into one category more than another is just as much the sacrifice as it is the choice at hand.

Money: often the sacrifice is happiness. You live to work, as opposed to working to live. Most of what you do is to accumulate material possessions and possibly gain material status. The driving force is obviously “monetary investment” – and everything revolves around this pillar.

Fun: often the sacrifice is money. You work to live, as opposed to living to work. Having excess isn’t really an objective. When you have money you don’t mind spending it on galas and events. You live more day-to-day with “fun” as your impetus. You would rather have a job you enjoy and make very little – than a job you hate with large material benefits.

Remembrance: I would like to create two sub-categories: Self-fulfilling Experiencers (micro) and Legendary Experiencers (macro).  I will have to expand on these, as I believe the sacrifice to be…well, everything.

Self-fulfilling Experiencers (SFEs) are those who live life for experiences. They have itchy feet and get bored easily. They are easily inspired by others who have “done stuff.” They are Renaissance people who dabble in many things and tend to have many stories to tell. They travel. Not always for fun… sometimes just to say they did it. Money is for spending  - and enjoyment might be sacrificed at the price of an experience.

Legendary Experiencers (LEs) are those who live life for the Story. The story presides over everything else – family, friends, money, and even happiness. What determines the captivation of a novel…? We read and love stories that are ‘page-turners.’ We love heroes and heroines because they ultimately sacrifice themselves for a greater cause, whether it be love or honor. Death is not a deterrent.

I believe these people to understand their lives uniquely in that each instant will be the next word in their Story. They want to be remembered. They realize that the story that they or someone else will read tomorrow is being written at this moment. They do and act according to how they want the story to be read. They push the limits because it is thus that turns the pages. They aren’t easily or ever satisfied. If it was accomplished – well then it wasn’t enough or it could have been more. The greatest compliments you could give an LEs are: “you’re crazy/ you’re insane” “I don’t believe you” “How the ****” “that’s impossible” or “What are you?!” He or she will then smile, as though someone had just turned another page.

As much as we are mostly combinations with bits and pieces from each, I think there is usually one category that sits on the Throne… (bearing in mind that this is a non-spiritual post :)

Problem is with all of these categories that this truth still applies:

“They hardly get started, barely taking root,
when He blows on them and they wither.
The wind carries them off like chaff.”

Even the greatest stories are forgotten by men.

i can’t agree. mainly because ‘truth’ is a bold claim :) – especially one so poetic and spiritual with absolutely no grounding. (but maybe abstract is where real truth, whatever that may be, lies.)

i know many great stories, i read them, i hear about them, they are taught in schools, seen on youtube, and recounted by parents. they often influence my life; inspire me to try harder, go further, take courage, and sometimes embrace a new dream. . .
